At present, markers are available with 3 different ink types:

Markers with xylene/toluene-based inks

These inks are principally used where weather-resistance is paramount. The solvents xylene and toluene present a servere odour nuisance and are detrimental to people´s health. For this reason, alcohol-based inks are also increasingly used for this application purpose.

Markers with alcohol-based inks

Almost odour neutral and not demtrimental to people´s health, but they penetrate through the paper.

Markers with water-based inks

The safest markers, and they are also almost odour neutral. They do not penetrate through the paper.
