FUNCTIONAL PRINCIPLE AND TECHNICAL DESIGN

Generally, one leg is equipped with a steel needle to be positioned on the centre point, while the other leg accommodates either an obliquely sharpened pencil lead or a technical drawing pen (attached via an adapter).

Most compasses are made of metal (die-cast aluminium). To guarantee performance capability and durability, the surfaces are varnished, nickel-plated or chrome-plated.

Glass fibre reinforced plastics are increasingly used for the manufacture of smaller parts.
